Facial jowls
16.09.2026
Jowls are sagging tissues along the jawline that blur the facial oval. They are not a single condition but the visible result of several anatomical changes.
Why the lower face changes
Skin loses elasticity, retaining ligaments weaken and fat compartments shift. Jaw and chin structure, weight fluctuation and genetics also matter.
Can exercise or massage remove jowls?
They may temporarily reduce puffiness, but they cannot return displaced deep tissues to their former position. Aggressive stretching does not create a true lift.
Non-surgical options
For early changes, energy-based treatment or carefully planned volume correction may be considered. Excessive filler can make the lower face heavier rather than sharper.
When surgery is considered
When deep-tissue descent and excess skin dominate, a lower facelift may provide a more predictable correction. The face and neck must be assessed together.
FAQ
Will weight loss remove jowls?
No. It reduces fat but does not restore ligaments and may reveal volume loss.
Is there a correct age for a facelift?
The decision depends on anatomy and the degree of change, not a fixed age.
Is tightening the skin alone enough?
A durable result usually requires addressing the tissue layer responsible for descent.
