Fat after liposuction
16.09.2026
Liposuction physically removes a portion of fat cells from a selected area. They do not regrow in the same number, but the procedure does not prevent future weight gain.
What happens afterwards
Remaining fat cells can enlarge with excess energy intake. With weight gain, volume can increase in treated and untreated areas, although distribution may differ.
Why contour changes
Long-term appearance is influenced by weight, pregnancy, hormonal and age-related change, skin quality and lifestyle. Early postoperative swelling should not be mistaken for returning fat.
Liposuction is not weight-loss treatment
It reshapes local proportions rather than treating obesity. The most stable outcomes are expected with a relatively stable weight.
Maintaining the result
- follow postoperative instructions;
- resume activity gradually;
- maintain weight without crash dieting;
- remember that major loose skin requires a different operation.
See the VASER body-contouring section for treatment areas.
FAQ
Does fat move elsewhere?
No. With weight gain, existing fat cells enlarge throughout the body.
When is the contour stable?
After swelling subsides and tissues adapt; timing depends on the extent of surgery.
Can liposuction be repeated?
Sometimes, but skin quality, scar tissue and safe treatment volume require assessment.
