Breast Surgery After Breastfeeding: When to Plan It
18.09.2026
After lactation, volume and skin continue to change, so surgery is planned only once the breasts and weight are stable.
When to seek consultation
Timing depends on complete cessation of lactation, absence of engorgement, stable volume and general health—not only a calendar date.
Implant or lift
An implant adds volume but may not raise stretched tissues. Ptosis may require mastopexy, with or without an implant.
Future pregnancy
It is not an absolute contraindication, but pregnancy may change the result again and near-term plans should be considered.
FAQ
Must everyone wait one year?
No single interval fits all; stability of lactation, tissues and weight matters.
Is breastfeeding possible afterward?
It depends on technique and anatomy and cannot be guaranteed.
